Units: 2-4-6![]()
Consolidates and extends the conceptual understanding from autonomy and robotics subjects in the design and testing of a full autonomous system. Lectures cover the principles of system engineering and expose students to recent software and algorithmic advances. Students design, implement, deploy, and test a software architecture for autonomy, including perception, control and decision-making, while considering mission performance, compute and communications requirements and fault-tolerance. Examples of applications include autonomous take-off and landing for a reusable rocket; an autonomous docking system for spacecraft, or an autonomous urban air-mobility system. Assumes proficiency with Python or C++, ROS2, and knowledge of the fundamentals of autonomy. Instruction and practice in oral and written communication provided.
