Provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges, opportunities, and policy responses to the global climate and energy transitions. Discusses the role of energy in world economies, paying particular attention to low- and middle-income countries, as well as the impacts of climate change on those economies. Considers how energy access, cost, reliability, and environmental harm drive or hinder economic growth, the political influences on the energy sector, and the role of energy in mitigating future impacts of climate change. Also discusses global climate solutions, including the role of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change process, trade policy, climate finance, business strategies to reduce emissions, and business strategies to help people adapt to a changing climate. Students taking graduate version complete additional assignments.
