Provides instruction in advanced topics in geographic computation and GIScience and their application in urban planning. Topics include, but are not limited to, designing and implementing spatial databases, programming replicable spatial analysis workflows, areal interpolation, spatial regression modeling, analyzing clustering and dispersion, service areas and measures of accessibility, interactive mapping, programmatic cartography, and contemporary theories of spatial methodology and practice. Culminates in a project in which students implement, document, and present a spatial analysis or algorithm relevant to research or the practice of urban planning.
